Autumn is here! Get ready with our new collection of kilim boots
It is our vision to become one of the most inspiring brands around. WHY? To inspire you to follow your dreams. To express your originality and be your truest self. To live a more sustainable lifestyle. To be good to yourself and to positively impact the world around you. To be the change you want to see in the world. This is our vision.
Our dream started in 2010, when an old pair of Kilim boots tucked away in a Moroccan market, called to us. The artistry and the handwork involved in this simple pair of boots made us take the leap of faith and follow our hearts.
The result was our first brand: Kiboots. We had zero knowledge of the world we were about to become part of. For us, it was never a question that our business would be a sustainable one. That was a given. Almost 40% of the materials used in our boot production come from recycled materials.
Over time, we have learned more about the industry and the true origin of the materials we use. As our collections began to grow, so too our sense of responsibility. It was time to take the next step. Not only into something more than just a boot brand but also towards creating a more sustainable business. And so in the summer of 2016 our lifestyle brand, Kindred Spirits, was born.
We are committed to two things: Recycling and Fair Business; People and planet. We have worked exclusively with small family businesses specializing in artistry. We take time to not only get to know every worker by name but also spend time and share food with them.
With each season as Kindred Spirits, we continue to explore new and innovative ways to be eco-friendlier, by experimenting with different recycled materials such as upcycling rugs and various leftover textiles. Since 2017, in close collaboration with our atelier in Turkey, our unique kind of eco leather uses a cleaner and safer tanning process and a reduced carbon footprint.
The true waste of this industry is still seasonal fashion which is by definition unsustainable. We believe in slow fashion and create collections that have not only high quality but also long product life. By not following fashion trends we stay true to our nature and our many compliments reinforce this philosophy.
Every piece in our collection is created with love in a safe and positive atmosphere: fair wages and benefits are paid, and women and minorities are given equal-work opportunities. As our organization grows, so too do our suppliers, tanners and ateliers.
From our factories to our manufacturing methods to our everyday footprint here in Amsterdam, our vision is to create beautiful, world-inspired collections that inspire change. Change for people, change for communities and change for the planet we live on. It’s an exciting and constantly evolving journey - one that we want to share with YOU.
What inspires you? Are you realizing your dreams? Making your own choices?
We are all Kindred Spirits. Welcome to our world!
Martijn and JovannaEven though we are far from perfect, we do like to better ourselves over time, by taking it one day at a time. Don’t we all try to do that? We are proud of our business and how we run it – what we have achieved so far. But we can do better. Aim higher. Over the next five years, our commitment is to understand our impact even further and to develop initiatives to create even more positive change. It is a journey that is never-ending, but step by step we believe we can get there.
Complete Supply Chain Transparency
With the very close relationships we have with our producers, we know they are just as committed to sustainability as we are. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. We need to go one step further and get to know those who supply our suppliers. In this way we can attain more knowledge and make even better decisions to make the best products possible.Sustainable Materials
Our commitment is to use only the most sustainable materials. As our collections grow, so too does the demand for new materials. We will continue to maintain our sustainable material promise as we continue to grow.Footprint
Currently, 80% of our collections are being produced in the European trading zone. We aim to increase this up to 90% within the next 5 years. Keeping the bulk of our operations close to home means maintaining a much lower carbon footprint than when producing overseas.Circular Fashion
Circular fashion is a quite a new concept in the sustainable fashion world. The question it boils down to is, “What happens after any product comes to the end of its life?” To answer this, we continually work on plans to facilitate repair, remake, reuse and recycle as many of our products as possible.
